Expressions of Me
Expressions of Me is an exhibition of student artwork produced by children in grades 3-5 at Kimbrough Elementary, Carson Elementary, and the Monarch School in San Diego. This online exhibition shows works that are companion pieces to a show by the same group of students on view now through February 17, 2012 in Terminal 2 of the San Diego International Airport. The art is intended to reflect themes of creative self-expression and identity development. The show was juried by an impressive roster of arts and education professionals, including Ron Jesse, the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator at the San Diego Office of Education, Deborah Klochko, Executive Director at the Museum of Photographic Arts, and Hector Montenegro, former Area Superintendent at San Diego Unified School District. In addition, we included three fifth grade students from a different campus to serve as peer judges for the work. We would like to recognize and thank Andy Ngoly, Rocio Valdez, and Arianna Jiron from Mr. Ford's class at Rosa Park Elementary for their input. Using criteria such as originality, creativity, and relationship to the theme, the jurors chose a selection of photographs and artwork that celebrates personal identity through the arts.
